Study aim: "The present study therefore had three main objectives: a) to document sediment contamination and clam bioaccumulation for a large number of emerging and priority substances, most of which were investigated for the first time in a representative coastal lagoon of the River Po delta; b) to discuss whether some of these endocrine disrupters may pose a risk either to human consumption or to the biota in the lagoon; and c) to integrate the reconnaissance effort undertaken by our Institute on the River Po basin and contribute to the prioritisation of the chemicals in this wide basin, improving the applicability of the WFD."
