Study aim: "By comparing data collected from Fort Erie at the head of the river with data collected from Niagara-on-the-Lake at the mouth of the river the authors concluded that there were sources of PBDEs within the Niagara watershed in addition to atmospheric contributions. The data from the caged mussel and sediment survey can be used to identify these potential source areas since sediment are major sinks for these contaminants and possible exposure pathway to invertebrates. PBDE congener specific distributions and their bioavailability from sediment to mussels will also be examined."
